Roses at her feet

For some years as a curious pilgrim, I have been attracted to the symbolism of the rose at the feet of statues of the holy mother. I love the way artists have interpreted the symbol of the rose as the metaphor for the heart. The rose is the labyrinth of the heart. Our coming home to ourselves is in fact the return to our heart.
The heart has many chambers. Different nooks and crannies. Places to hide in as we hide from our wounds, and crystal rooms of overflowing love for the abundance and beauty of life. Keeping our hearts open as well as protected is a mastery class in Christ Consciousness. An eternal path for our eternal souls.
Just today as I sit in the silence of a church staring at the roses at her feet, I feel an invisible hand on my shoulder offering some hushed repose from the busy activities necessary to get through life. My heart seeks some respite from the little and big worries which accumulate in dusty corners. Let me sweep them clean with a forgiveness brush, and move onto a path strewn with rose petals.
