The Power of Stone
November 7, 2025
As an artist, I am captivated by natural materials such as stone and wood. I love the texture which has formed over time by the process of evolution. Tree bark which speaks of seasons and summers, and stone which has memories and monuments etched in its fissured countenance.
The power of stone formed by fire and pressure, or movement and shifting plates, whispers as a living presence of movement and circles and cycles. Stone vibrates deep time as well as linear time.
On any pilgrim path, you will find stones which force you to stop and consider the sacred in your steps, and the purpose of your journey. At Vila Verde in northern Portugal, I discovered a statue of our lady, carved from marble and requesting I pause and take stock of my day. I was glad that the silence of the moment, with the power of the stone, reminded me of our power within and how far we can go with that inner dynamo of strength.
