Cooperativa de Lordelo do Ouro
June 29, 2026
I’ve just spent a few happy hours at a local art exhibition. “Paralelo 41 N” - is a collection of Portuguese and northern Spanish artists, who living on the 41 degree north latitude, congregated at the Alvaro Siza designed building in Porto, to share their work with flourish, focus and a certain savoir faire.

The building is not mignon. It’s bold, and a masterpiece of its time. Designed and built from 1960-63 and commissioned by the cooperative movement of Porto, it’s a statement of social history. As the wheels of time turn, and a renaissance of co-creation and co-operation is viscerally felt and vocally expressed by a new generation, it’s fitting that THIS building is back on the cat walk, and being eyed for its slim lines and Le Corbusier feel. I’m imagining events of dance and the fluid motion of people, settling in to make this building and location hum to a quirky kind of tune. But hey, Uranus is in Gemini for seven years so anything unique, authentic and eccentric is going to fly high.

Go see, feel, savour and digest this exhibition, and it’s curated home. You will leave feeling inspired about the pride of the Portuguese. With their deep roots in their home soil, they can billow high as the new winds blow, and fresh flavours and colours sweep in to this treasured location.
