Camino Anniversary
September 29, 2026
On the 29th September 2013, I arrived in Santiago de Compostella having completed the Camino Frances. The 29th September is my grandmothers birthday. I wanted to complete my pilgrimage on her birthday as my way of giving thanks for her life. Honouring all that she taught me, as the wise woman that she was.
By taking a sacred path into what turned out to be an unknown future, I laid out my life as a holy offering. I was at an unconscious level, asking for a divine will to live within me and work through me. That my life be in service, using the creator gifts I was granted at birth.
The road has been long and winding. Challenges aplenty. Troubles of the heart. Fevers of the head. Joy in small gains. Peace in acceptance. Hope for what is yet to come. I’ve been washed clean. Stripped back to bare bones. What remains, is the essence of what the universe always had in mind for me. My grandmother too. As her first grandaughter, she watched me intently, and saw me grow through ages and phases and stages. As I zoom towards seventy, I hope she’s rejoicing that I kept her spirit alive by fructifying her within me.
