Baina - Ships, Anchors and Pilgrims
June 5, 2026
I’ve come to Baina in northern Spain, on the Portuguese Camino, to smell the sea, eat some seafood and pass the time of day with some pilgrims. It’s good to feel the element of wind, and sense the pull of the ocean swell.

As I look at the boats in the marina, and marvel at the parador crafted with crenellated pride, I am once more in awe at the beauty of contrast and juxtaposition. How the this and the that, and the soft with the warm and the cloud in the sky, can together make a whole out of many differences. Then I muse on the God creator and the divine creativity in man, which shaped all that I am seeing and experiencing. I keep a gratitude diary, to remind me of the enormity of the gifts and miracles we receive daily in abundance. That’s me waxing lyrical again. It’s what pilgrimage does. It sharpens the harp of our sacred song we are here to sing.
Buen camino.
Julia.
